511 ready for dialing!

Starting on September 1 travelers in the Sacramento region and beyond can dial one easy-to-remember telephone number for complete, comprehensive traveler information: 511.

511 provides access to information about all modes of travel: traffic conditions for commuters, bus and light rail information for more than 20 transit agencies, Paratransit services for the elderly and disabled, ridesharing information and information on commuting by bike. The telephone service is available in English and Spanish.

The Sacramento region, which includes El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties, is the primary service area for the phone service. The number also links callers to 511 services in the Bay Area, Nevada and Oregon, as well as Butte and Glenn counties.

Folsom Visioning, Part 2

The City of Folsom is hosting the second round of public "Visioning" meetings on September 8 and 11 for the Sphere of Influence area, the undeveloped land south of Highway 50 between Prairie City Road, White Rock Road and the El Dorado County line.

These public meetings will focus on:

  • a summary of suggestions voiced by community residents and stakeholders during July about the future of the South of 50 area.
  • a review and discuss alternative development scenarios for the South of 50 area, using sketch plans prepared by the City's planning consultants.
  • a report from an independent transportation consultant about transportation impacts and opportunities in the alternative development scenarios.
  • a discussion on different types of "community character" possible in the South of 50 area.

To ensure maximum participation, the same meeting will be held twice. Pick the date and location that's most convenient and join City staff, consultants and a transportation planning specialist for an interesting, interactive discussion.
