| US 50 open again
US 50 is now open in El Dorado County from Sly Park to Meyers. It had been closed on October 13 due to Fred's Fire (named after a well-known curve and former business establishment.)
Due to recent storm activity, mudslides had occurred in the fire-devastated area and the potential for mudslides required the continued closure of the highway.
Technical representatives (hydrologists, geologists, etc.) from numerous state departments evaluated the canyon and highway. Caltrans maintenance crews have cleared debris and will monitor the highway and adjacent slopes around the clock in the coming days to insure that travel along US 50 is safe.
7th St. closes this week
As part of Regional Transit work on the Amtrak Folsom Extension, contractors will be closing 7th Street in Downtown Sacramento beginning October 25 at 7 a.m. The closure will only impact 7th street between J and L. The street will remain closed 24-hours a day until November 7 at 10 p.m.
The actual work that will be accomplished is the installation of a 48 inch combined sewer, which is required before track work can begin.
This combined sewer will be installed on 7th Street between H and K streets. Work crews will be working on 7th Street beginning at K Street, working south to north one block at a time.
Traffic on 7th Street will be detoured at J Street to 9th Street to L Street. Sidewalks on 7th Street will remain open at all times. Access to businesses will be maintained. The entrance into the Downtown Plaza on 7th Street between J & K streets will remain open (flagger will be present).
A couple transit and commuter notes:
- Light rail will not be impacted. Trains will run on a normal schedule.
- Buses on 7th Street will be detoured east on H Street (NOT J Street) over to 9th Street and back up L Street. All impacted bus stops have notices in place.
- Vehicles on 7th (Not buses) will be detoured at J Street to 9th Street to L Street.
Celebrate a wide Power Inn
The City of Sacramento will celebrate the completion of the Power Inn Road Widening Project on November 15, 10 a.m., at 3550 Power Inn Road in front of SIMAS Floor Company. You are invited! RSVP by calling Amy Williams at 916-808-7523.
Power Inn Road was widened from four lanes to six lanes between Folsom Blvd and 14th Ave. Other improvements include new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, street lighting, and landscaping. The project improvements will enhance traffic flow along Power Inn Road by reducing congestion in the immediate area and improving accessibility to US 50. The project has also increased pedestrian and bicycle accessibility within the corridor.
