| Folsom Gets Trails Grant
The Parks and Recreation Department recently received a
grant for $157,500 from the State Recreational Trails Program for construction of another section
of the Humbug-Willow Creek Trail. This trail segment makes an important connection between existing
trails along Humbug and Willow Creeks in the area of Riley Street and Blue Ravine Road. The Trail's
Division has now received $3.5 million in grant monies.
Alternative Fuel Patrols
Folsom has a new mounted police patrol unit, the first since
the early 1920s when former Constable Herman Mundt traded his horse for a touring car.
Visitors to the Folsom's popular Thursday Night Markets on Sutter Street will see the Folsom Mounted Police patrol unit.
They will also be visible at the upcoming July 4th rodeo.
The officers and their mounts went through a rigorous five-month
training regimen including working with crowds and crowd control, functioning in traffic, operating in a calm
manner around sirens, flashing lights and firecrackers, and search and rescue training.
Funding for the unit is provided through the Police Department's
operations budget and significant contributions from community groups, merchants and private citizens.
The horses are stabled at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary.
Creating the RC vision
There are two more opportunities to help create a vision for the
City of Rancho Cordova. These visioning workshops will help city officials develop a General Plan.
Remaining workshops are:
- Tuesday, June 29, 6:30 p.m. at the Rancho Cordova Neighborhood Center
- Tuesday, July 6, 6:30 p.m. at Mather Elementary School (in the Independence at Mather neighborhood south of Mather Field)
The June Visioning workshops will focus on a long-term land use vision for Rancho Cordova; the
July workshop will look at issues of Urban Design--how the community's neighborhoods and commercial areas should be designed.
Refreshments will be served at all of the workshops, and children are welcome.
Information on the General Plan program is available online here.
