New landscaping is underway at the East Bidwell and Scott Road interchange. The landscaping will feature a textured concrete border. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross under US 50 near Sunrise Blvd. using a trail which links Coloma, north of 50, and Point East Way, south of 50. Above is the entrance to the trail from Coloma, near the fire station.
The south entrance to the US 50 undercrossing begins at the end of Point East Way. Travel west on Point East to access Sunrise Blvd. and the Sunrise Light Rail Station.

Measure A includes US 50

The Measure A ballot initiative, set for a vote on November 2, includes several projects that would benefit US 50 commuters including a multi-modal connector road linking US 50 to Hwy 99 and I-5.

The question before voters in Sacramento County is whether to continue the existing half-cent sales tax for transportation which would pay for these projects.

   Other US 50 projects include:

  • Upgrading the Watt Avenue Interchange
  • Widening the on/off ramps between US 50 and I-5
  • A new bridge over the American River to replace the Folsom Dam Road
  • Maintenance for the American River Parkway
  • Addition of bus and carpool lanes from Sunrise to downtown Sacramento
  • Bus/carpool ramp connection from eastbound 50 to southbound 99
The measure also allows for continued funds for street and road maintenance.

Councilmember Cooley hosts Measure A forum

Rancho Cordova City Council member Ken Cooley has offered to answer questions and receive comments on the proposed Measure A ballot initiative. Cooley represents Rancho Cordova on the Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA) which is sponsoring the initiative. The STA will also administer the transportation funds, should the measure pass on November 2.

15 passenger vans are safe

Recent articles in the Sacramento Bee and the Business Journal have hinted that 15-passenger vanpools may be unsafe and prone to roll-overs. Enterprise Rideshare Manager Connie McGee notes that CHP information regarding 15 passenger vans states that the vans are only dangerous when being driven recklessly. Enterprise leases vans in the Sacramento Region for vanpooling. To date, no van of any size, being operated as a vanpool has been known to pose unsafe hazards, including roll-overs.

The recent news stories were prompted by a lawsuit in which a 15-passenger van did roll-over. According to Enterprise, the CHP report sited the accident as the driver's fault. The driver fell asleep at the wheel of the van, causing an accident, resulting in the van roll-over. Further, the van was leased through the rental fleet, not through the Rideshare/vanpool program.
